Guru ENT Installs AI and Multi-Sensor Safety Monitoring System at Uljin Forestry Sites

Guru ENT (구루이엔티), a forest restoration technology company led by chief executive Shim Jae-yong, said on September 30 that it had installed a new model of G-UNIT, a mobile safety monitoring system for forestry sites that combines AI video analysis with sensors measuring temperature, humidity and wind speed, at forestry sites under the Uljin National Forest Station and had begun using it in the field.

G-UNIT is a mobile safety monitoring system developed for the particular conditions of forestry work. Forestry sites have little electrical or communications infrastructure, and work areas shift constantly, which makes fixed CCTV installations difficult. G-UNIT uses a solar-powered standalone electrical supply so that it can operate in those conditions.

Guru ENT previously tested G-UNIT at a forestry site in Pyeongchang. The new model now in use at the Uljin site adds sensors measuring temperature, humidity and wind speed to the existing AI video monitoring function. The main change is that the system can now track changes in site conditions as well as the condition of the workers.

"The earlier model focused on watching the worker, while the new G-UNIT has been developed to check the worker and the working environment together," Shim said. "We plan to keep developing it as a safety monitoring system that can actually be used at forestry sites."

Guru ENT is a smart forestry solutions company founded in 2023. It develops and supplies products including Pellote (펠로떼), a seedball-based material for forest restoration; G-PAD, mechanised equipment for revegetating slopes; and the G-UNIT forestry site safety monitoring system.
